I am a ceramic artist with an emphasis on form over function; usually making pieces without excessive ornamentation. Pieces are wheel thrown, often have carved features, and there’s a synergy and cooperation between the carving and the form. The aesthetic quality comes more from the shape and proportion rather than how it’s decorated. My study of the Chinese language has influenced my art and an Asian influence can often be seen in both form and finish.

I primarily work with white stoneware clay, bisque fire, apply underglazes followed by a clear glaze

My Medium

I primarily use white stoneware clay. After vessels are wheel thrown, they're bisque fired, underglazed, clear glazed then fired again.

My Inspiration

For decoration I find inspiration in Chinese characters, ink drawings of flowers and leaves. I enjoy the throwing process, finding it meditative and relaxing. I favor using only 1 color when I glaze, but I partner with a glass artist who uses more color when she decorates my pieces.
